Who Calls?
Author(s):
David Campton
The celebrated English playwright has written five wonderfully contrasting roles here, with a surprising short part for a sixth. Set at a time when England was still divided between "upstairs" and "downstairs," this play takes place in the kitchen of a large Victorian house where the servants are trying to adjust to the incredible fact that their wealthy, demanding and flamboyant mistress is lying dead upstairs. As the women talk, their various relationships with each other and with their mistress are progressively revealed. Tension builds to a climax when the bell from upstairs, by which the mistress for so long directed their lives, suddenly rings again! One int. set.
